When It Might Be Time For A Garage Door Replacement
It’s not very often that a garage door will simply stop working “out of the blue.” More than likely, the door or opener have demonstrated signs that they’re deteriorating or about to fail. Knowing what to look out for can go a long way in avoiding an emergency repair or replacement.
Here are a few telltale signs that you may need to replace your garage door in the near future.
The door is loud or noisy when opening and closing
If your door makes scraping, grinding or rattling sounds when it’s opened or closed, your opener may be starting to burn out. Believe it or not, garage door openers are supposed to be rather quiet! If your opener is more than 10 years old, or is making strange noises, it may be time for a replacement.
The door will occasionally fail to open
If your door seems to randomly “choose” when to open and not open, you may have a wiring or electrical issue. Minor wiring problems can sometimes be repaired, but advanced damage or frequent failure will likely require a new opener.
The door will not open or close at all
If your door simply won’t open or close no matter how many times you press the keypad, and you’ve ruled out any electrical issues, you more than likely have a dead motor and will need a new door opener.
